The one about creativity

Blank page syndrome

Hi bub,

Another week, another 10+ cover letters written by yours truly. In my now 9-month-long unemployment streak, I’ve never thought about stopping my writing, and I kind of never compromised on my writing style either. ✏️

I’ve written some AWESOME cover letters, and I’ve been very very creative. For a position at Metacore (idk if I’m allowed to namedrop) an up-and-coming mobile game company, I wrote about myself and my achievements in the style of game descriptions on the App Store. When applying to Tise a second-hand shopping platform, I made my CV look like a post on their app.

But you know what? I literally never heard back from either. Sometimes I feel that creativity is no longer valued, even in creative fields like my own. Sometimes it seems like people can’t see past the creativity and glance at the professionalism and expertise that is right there. 🎨

How should I approach this moving on? Should I just submit a dull Chat GPT boring and trite cover letter, or have a black and white CV with just text and bullet points? I don’t see a middle ground and I feel a bit lost. I also hate wasting my kick-ass ideas on recruiters who clearly don’t get my brand of humor and for those modern art pieces to be lost in a sea of sameness.

What would you do if you were me?

💡Always keep in mind…

See it from someone else’s eyes

Creative fatigue is the bane of most people forced to have good ideas. I suffer from it from time to time, and I hate to say that there’s no better solution than to be uncreative for a while. Buuuuuuuuut, I do have a tool for you. The Reframing Matrix is a cognitive process that helps you brainstorm about a topic from different perspectives. Four different perspectives commonly used in the world of work are product, planning, potential, and people, but any 4 perspectives work!

🍃Have you…

🎮 Play: The Binding of Isaac

The fall is spooky and cozy, and I’ll try to fit the mood with my recs this month. I hope among you readers there’s some gamer girl. My fav game of all time is The Binding of Isaac - a roguelike with cute pixel art and tons of biblical and paranormal references.

In the game, Isaac's mother receives a message from God demanding the life of her son as proof of her faith, and Isaac, fearing for his life, flees into the monster-filled basement of their home where he must fight to survive. Isaac’s weapon is his tears, and he unlocks different powers and skills at every run.

Just broke the 2000th hour playing sO I can definitely recommend trying it.
