The one about job hunting

New experiences

Hey everyone!

I know I’m not the person who usually writes these newsletters, so let me introduce myself. I’m Stella Moliski, a 15-year-old marketing intern here at Hei Dingo for the TET program, a two-week work experience designed for ninth graders in Finland.

During my time here, I’ve been researching the job market, especially for experienced professionals. Even though I’m still a student, I’ve learned a lot about how the job-seeking process works in Finland. While researching, I put myself in the shoes of a marketing pro with a few years of experience and tried searching for job opportunities. Here’s what I found!

While going down the rabbit hole of job hunting in Finland, I first turned to trusty sites like Duunitori, Indeed, and LinkedIn. These platforms? Super convenient—tons of job listings, easy "Apply" buttons, and a pretty straightforward process overall.

But let’s be real—there are a few bumps along the way. With so many people using these sites, it can feel like you’re just clicking "apply" and waiting in a long line, hoping someone notices your application. Plus, a lot of these sites are in Finnish, which can feel like a challenge if you’re not fluent. Still, Finland is a goldmine for job opportunities—you just need to know where to dig! Here’s what I’ve discovered:

A lot of these platforms are still mostly in Finnish, which can be a bit intimidating for international candidates. A more globally accessible, bilingual experience could really open doors. Finland also has great resources for the inexperienced and unemployed (like TET, TTT, and Kela!), but mid-career professionals seem to be missing out on tailored support. It would be amazing to see more career coaching or job-switching programs for people looking for the next big challenge!

Through this research, I’ve learned to better understand the struggles and experience of finding a job in Finland. Hopefully the job hunting experience will continue to grow positively over time, and I’m excited to see the changes once it’s my turn to apply for a job!

💡Always keep in mind…

Make the most of the season

Now that it’s been more than a week of autumn, take advantage of the fall scenery! Even though Finland’s fall season is mostly cloudy and rainy, embrace the fall feels and get some fresh air 🍁

Take a walk in your local forest, or try places in Helsinki like Töölönlahti and Keskuspuisto.
