The one about rolling with the punches

When life gives you lemons 🍋

Hiyaaa!

Top of the morning to you babe 🤠 The past week has been crazy bonkers, it was orientation week for freshmen in university and all the plans I had that could go wrong went wrong.

Today I want to yap about that. People say when life gives you lemons you should make lemonade, meaning you should still try to make the most out of a bad situation. It’s so hard to keep this mindset going after you’ve been already given a truckload of bruised lemons and they keep on coming.

What makes the difference? I think it’s easier to roll with the punches when you’re surrounded by positive people. If your plans go awry and everyone involved is sooooo ready to give up, there’s no way you’d still want to go through with them - let alone be flexible enough to rearrange everything. It’s so important that the people around you are calm, composed, and can find humor even when everything is looking bleak.

And when the proverbial lemons are handed to you once again and you find yourself alone, I want you to be that person for yourself. Everything has a solution, nothing is that big of a deal, you can figure it out AND you can ask for help. Being defeatist helps no one!

You’re still allowed to be pissed off though so 🤷‍♀️

🎶 Listen: Care and Feeding

Are you a parent? Well, I’m not, but I really enjoy parenting content. Care and Feeding is a podcast by Slate where parents write in with their questions and the hosts try their best to give them a hand. The context is a bit US-centric, but it’s still super interesting to listen to someone else’s takes!

Our Progress Update

Testing, testing - what to do while we are testing?
Many internal, external and community conversations arose after last month’s new members joined and we listened.

join the conversation on slack!

We are working on a salary database in which you will be able to compare offers, location salary and negotiation tips. ALL anonymous and fed by women working, job seekers and women who are advocating for DEI in more companies. Want to help us add your information privately? Click here

We will be regularly updating it to keep it relevant. If you find this valuable, we encourage you to share it and help other women take charge of their careers.

A couple of you have asked for more community meetups and what better way than to learn from each other? That’s why we will soon announce our first “Each one, teach one” where one community member teaches us an interesting skill we can all apply to our careers. Keep an eye on slack!

Many more things are cooking BTS. We update the slack community first and the following Monday via this newsletter to keep everyone in the loop 😉

Don’t forget to join the conversation. We can work better for you with your feedback, suggestions and opinions.

Have a great start to September,

The Hei Dingo Team

☁️Friendly reminder

The company you keep can greatly influence your mindset. Surround yourself with people who uplift and support you, rather than those who trigger feelings of inadequacy.
